It's easy to not let our sight go beyond what see day to day. For me especially, its easy to only focus on having cancer and dealing with cancer that you forget everything else. Some might say, that's normal, you have cancer so of course you're going to be focused on beating it. This is partly true, but for me, I've tried to be very focused on just being thankful. I'd say the most consistent feeling I've had throughout this experience has been one of thankfulness. Sure, there are bad days where I'm just so tired of being tired, and I'm so ready to be healthy again - but I can't miss all the good in the process.
Around me there exists such a small world. It's a world of cars, jobs, vacations, pets, hanging out with friends, and the problems that are experienced in this world are very different than the rest of the world. Or are they?
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. - Colossians 3:15, NIV
I'm thankful to have access to modern medicine, I'm thankful to be a part of such a loving church who has a heart to serve, I'm thankful for prayer, I'm thankful for my gracious employer, I'm thankful that Jesus came to reconcile us to God so we can have access to God, I'm thankful for laughter, I'm thankful for clean food, I'm thankful for clean water, I'm thankful to have a place to sleep at night, I'm thankful to have a car so I can get to and from the hospital safely, I'm thankful for my family, I'm thankful that cancer is teaching me a lot about how God cares for me. I could go on and on, but what I want people to know is that before they think God isn't healing me when they pray for it - please look, take a look at everything there is to be thankful for, He gives and He doesn't have to, it's His grace. But most importantly, He's given me eternal life, that alone is enough to be thankful. I'm blessed beyond measure, truly.
For the next 3-5 weeks, I'll be going to Florida to rest and let my Mom take care of me. This will be a huge help, and I'll be returning to Washington, DC at the end of June. My next CT scan will be June 24th, so hopefully we'll have results on June 25th. I start another round of anti-biotics today, so hopefully that goes smoothly.
I'm also excited because I booked a trip to Israel for March 2014 with some girlfriends! The trip is being led by my friend Marian Jordan (www.redeemedgirl.org), and her pastor and his wife. I'm VERY excited!!! I've never been, and cannot wait to SEE where much of the bible took place. Again, another reason to be so very thankful! By then, I should be well done with treatment and able to walk the streets of Israel, which has been a dream of mine quite some time. I will also be getting baptized in the Jordan River! God is so good!
What are you thankful for? I've heard once that being thankful is simply wanting what you have. I'm amazed at what God has given me, especially because I know that He doesn't have to give me anything. I can't earn His blessing by doing or not doing something, He - by His plentiful grace - just allows me to have such an abundant life, including eternal life with Him. I can't earn healing, despite what some may tell you out there, healing is what God gives if He wants, and we have to trust that whatever He gives and when is His very best, and for our good.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. - Romans 8:28, NIV
